
CUMBERLAND – Blackstone Valley Prep Mayoral Academy has opened a new, 40,000-square-foot high school building that includes modern classrooms, study nooks, and innovation, science and technology labs.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Tuesday. The $15 million school opened Nov. 27.

It was constructed over a site that included a former lumber yard, providing infill development in its Cumberland neighborhood.
The high school is part of the Blackstone Valley Prep network of public charter schools with a college-prep focus, which draws a combined 1,800 students from Central Falls, Cumberland, Lincoln and Pawtucket.
The school was designed by Arrowstreet, of Boston. The construction was managed by Civic Builders Inc. of New York.
