Rhode Island Gov. Donald Carcieri has a good chance at keeping his seat after the 2006 election, according to a poll by Brown University.
At least 44 percent of respondents in the Ocean State would vote for the Republican incumbent in head-to-head contests against two Democratic candidates, the report shows.

Carcieri was elected in November 2002, defeating Democrat challenger Myrth York with 55 percent of the vote. He took over on January 2003 from fellow Republican Lincoln Almond.
Carcieri holds an 11 percent advantage over Lieutenant Governor Charles Fogarty, and a 16 percent lead over former Attorney General Sheldon Whitehouse.
