WOMAN TO WATCH HEALTH CARE:
Ashley Rimay, Indivior Inc. executive medical science liaison
WEARING MULTIPLE HATS while on the job is nothing new for Ashley Rimay.
It’s also enjoyable for her, as every day at Indivior Inc. is different, challenging and exciting, she says.
“It’s gratifying because I came from a clinical practice setting where I treated patients one-on-one in a hospital environment,” said Rimay, the Warwick-based pharmaceutical company’s executive medical science liaison. “Now, I see the large-scale impact of reaching patients globally. Applying my experience and reaching global patients is fulfilling and exciting for me.”
Rimay is part of the medical affairs team at Indivior, which develops medicines to treat substance use disorders and severe mental illnesses. Rimay educates providers about opioid use disorders and the products and medications her company offers to support patients with such disorders.
Rimay also leads strategy research and clinical initiatives internally within the company. She describes herself as a “thoughtful” leader who effectively combines her experience, leadership skills and empathy in her role. She also provides support, answers to clinical questions and mentorship.
Rimay developed clinical acumen by working in an inpatient hospital practice for six years, focusing on women’s health, oncology, and pain and addiction medicine. She subsequently became the clinical expert for Indivior’s medical division, serving as the national lead for opioid use disorders within the field medical team.
Through Rimay’s experience and intelligence, she connects high-level physicians and clinic providers to data so they can treat people who misuse opioids, an underserved population.
At Indivior, Rimay gathers national insights from providers to help guide the organization’s medical strategy to improve access to medication treatment for vulnerable, underserved patients with an opioid use disorder. She also helped launch a new reversal agent for opioid overdose. Additionally, Rimay is involved in real-world evidence research and supports clinical trials to identify the best treatment options for these patients.
“Caring about patients and this underserved population is so important to our team that it is the ultimate motivator,” Rimay said. “When your motivator is patient care, great things tend to happen and you’re doing it for the right reasons.”
