C.J. Carpenter, MD has been named the latest recipient of Miriam Hospital’s
Distinguished Service Award for his achievements in research and treatment of
HIV- and AIDS-infected populations. He accepted the award during a reception
at the Dunes Club in Narragansett. Carpenter is chief of medicine at Miriam
Hospital, where he founded the Samuel and Esther Chester Immunology Center,
and a professor of medicine at Brown University. He is also chairman of the
office of AIDS research advisory council, a national body funded by the National
Institutes of Health, and principal investigator for the Lifespan/Tufts/Brown
Center for AIDS research.
