BOSTON – Sales of single-family homes in Connecticut and their prices showed gains in January compared with January 2009, according to The Warren Group.
The real estate tracking firm said 1,277 homes sold in January, 19.5 percent greater than the year prior. The median sales price rose to $238,900, an increase of 6 percent, or $13,900, from a year before. Sales in New London County increased to 98 from 96 while the median sales price held steady at $204,500.
“Connecticut’s housing market has been steadily improving over the last several months. January was the third-straight month that sales increased year-over-year by double-digit percentages,” said Timothy M. Warren Jr., CEO of The Warren Group. “Still, the big unknown is whether home sales will continue to increase when the homebuyer tax credit expires and the Federal Reserve stops purchasing mortgage-backed securities.”
The federal tax credit expires on April 30, 2010.
Separately, condominium sales in the state showed a 12.5 percent gain to settle at 395 in year-over-year comparisons while the median sales price held steady at $185,000.
