CVS Corporation announced that total sales for the month of September increased 31.6 percent to $3.28 billion, compared to $2.49 billion in the prior year period.
Same store sales increased 6.1 percent over the same month last year. Pharmacy same store sales increased 7.9 percent, while front-end same store sales increased 2.1 percent, CVS said. Total pharmacy sales represented 71.8 percent of total company sales in September.

For the third quarter, total sales increased 24 percent to $7.91 billion, compared to $6.38 billion in the prior year period. Same store sales for the quarter increased 5.2 percent over the same time period last year. Pharmacy same store sales increased 6.8 percent, while front-end same store sales increased 1.8 percent. Total pharmacy sales represented 71.0 percent of total company sales in the quarter, Woonsocket-based CVS said.
Year-to-date, total sales for the year increased 13.2 percent to $21.67 billion, compared to $19.14 billion in 2003. Same store sales for the thirty-nine week period increased 5.9 percent over the prior year period, the company said. Pharmacy same store sales increased 7.3 percent, while front-end same store sales increased 2.7 percent.
