DEM seeks volunteers for Big River cleanup

PROVIDENCE – With Earth Day approaching, the Department of Environmental Management is seeking volunteers to help with the cleanup of the Big River Management Area. The campaign is being directed by the combined efforts of DEM’s Division of Law Enforcement and the Rhode Island Conservation Officer Association. They will establish a central command at the Park and Ride off New London Turnpike at Exit 7 from Route 95 in Coventry. Volunteers will be issued Earth Day T-shirts, bags, gloves and litter picks to collect the trash and debris along New London Turnpike in the quarry area south from the Park and Ride. Although Earth Day is April 22, the cleanup is scheduled for April 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Those who wish to participate or donate refreshments are asked to call Environmental Police Officer Sheila Paquette at the Division of Law Enforcement, 222-3070.
