Agency Serves Turkey Dinners to 380 at Community Center,
Delivers Turkey Baskets to More Than 200 Families
PROVIDENCE, RI, December 1, 2010—The Federal Hill House Association (FHHA), a nonprofit organization serving one of Providence’s largest multi-ethnic communities, in conjunction with the India Association of Rhode Island, recently hosted a Thanksgiving dinner at its community center on Courtland Street in Providence. As part of the celebration, FHHA served more than 350 turkey dinners at its community center and delivered more than 250 turkey baskets throughout the neighborhood. The celebration was open to families and individuals from the Federal Hill community. Contributions from several local organizations helped make the day possible.

“This year has been especially hard on the community,” says Nina Pande, FHHA’s executive director. “Due to the downturn in our economy, many families have experienced a difficult time finding work or have lost their jobs. Our Thanksgiving Day celebration provided some relief for community members and ensured that as many of our constituents as possible were able to enjoy the holiday. I’d also like to thank staff, volunteers, and donating organizations, whose collaborative efforts helped make this day a reality.”
FHHA has held its Thanksgiving celebration for over 30 years. Agency staff and volunteers cooked and served the meals at the community center, which included turkey, stuffing, and side dishes. Palmieri’s Bakery provided fresh baked pies for dessert. State senate-elect Michael Tarro and councilman-elect Bryan Principe were among those who joined in the celebration.
In addition to the Thanksgiving dinner, members of the agency’s Foster Grandparent Program along with the following organizations listed below collected over 700 pounds of food that were distributed to families and individuals throughout Federal Hill.
