Five Questions With:
Dr. Hennie Fitzpatrick

Dr. Hennie Fitzpatrick is settling in as medical director at The BioMed Center New England after taking on the role in October.

Fitzpatrick is certified in functional medicine, integrative oncology and European biological medicine, and brings 30 years of experience to the center. She also sits on the board of advisers for the Bioregulatory Medicine Institute. Fitzpatrick shares her goals for the BioMed Center with Providence Business News.

PBN: As the new head of the BioMed Center, how do you plan to draw on your years of experience in functional medicine?

FITZPATRICK: I am using 20 years of expertise in combining functional and bioregulatory assessments and treatments to either restore health or maintain health in patients. BioMed Center is unique because here I can offer a comprehensive combination of evaluations and treatment modalities. In 2020 I will launch a patient education program to educate everyone about how to repair, replenish and restore perfect health regardless of the complexity of the illness, and how to stay well.

PBN: What are your priorities in your new role?

FITZPATRICK: My priority is to establish a healing community at the center that is a resource for everyone and to create an infrastructure for evaluation and treatment planning that efficiently delivers care without compromising a sense of being seen and heard and validated.

PBN: What is bioregulatory medicine, and how much of a demand is there for it in Rhode Island?

FITZPATRICK: Bioregulatory medicine combines state-of-the-art medical expertise with an appreciation of the exquisite wisdom and processes of our complex internal milieu, taking into account each patient’s individual health history and life experience.

PBN: How many providers work at the center, and does it serve patients of all ages?

FITZPATRICK: We have 20 well-trained staff members, including one doctor, one chiropractor and one dentist. We take care of people from birth to old age regardless of the health goals. We offer preconception health maintenance as well.

PBN: What changes do you foresee for the center over the next 10 years?

FITZPATRICK: Over the next 10 years we will continue to grow our healing community and to educate a large number of people on understanding how to get healthy and stay healthy. We will have generated a substantial body of research on the best practices of bioregulatory medicine, and we will have an active teaching and apprenticeship program for nurses, medical students, dentists, physicians and integrative practitioners. Together we will have made a substantial change in the way medicine and dentistry are practiced.
