Opening Reception, August 12th, 6-8pm will feature the gold work of Seung
Hea-Lee and narratives of Barbara Seidenath. The show will be hosted by
gallery owner: Tamar Kern the winner of “Rhode Island’s Best” Editor’s
Choice in the Studio Jewelry category.
Seung Hea Lee, who’s is featured in “master goldsmiths” and graces the
cover of Lark book, “500 Necklaces, Contemporary Interpretations of a
Timeless Form” will be introducing her new gold collection featuring
delicate wearable pieces with the illusion of volume.
German born, Barbara Seidenath, premiere US enamellist and international
art lecturer will introduce a new collection of enamel earrings inspired by
one of her favorite escapes, “Cape May”.
Alloy Gallery, nestled behind Trinity Church in historic Newport, is a gallery
of contemporary jewelry and working studio of Tamar Kern. Recipient of a
prestigious “emerging artist” grant from The American Craft Council and
winner of several awards, Tamar continues to provide juried shows of
museum quality works in ingenious displays.

Biography:
Barbara Seidenath
Barbara Seidenath began her studies at the School for Jewelry at Neugablonz in her native Germany, went on to study at SUNY New Paltz and then under the renowned goldsmith Herman Junger, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich.
Galleries and museums in the US and abroad including the National Ornamental Museum, Memphis; Museum of Art & Design, Helsinki, Finland; the Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth; the Gallery for Applied Arts, Munich; the Museum of Art and Design, New York, have all exhibited her work.
A visiting lecturer at many universities around the world, a recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship and grants from the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, Barbara is recognized as one of the most influential jewelry artists of her generation.

Seung Hea Lee
Korean born Seung hea Lee, is finding her place among the forefront of notable goldsmiths. Her work is on the cover of lark book “500 necklaces, contemporary interpretations of a timeless form” and she has been included in the new impressive collection of master goldsmiths in a book entitles “masters.gold, major works by leading artists”, her work has been displayed across the states, in Europe, and Asia.
Her schooling at the California at California College of art and design was the first time she emerged upon the American scene of contemporary jewelers. She then received her masters from Rhode Island School of Design, where she graduated with honors and was given a professorship in the jewelry department.
She is a very versatile artist using gold like paper due to its malleability. Her bodies of work differ considerably as she moves through her thoughts giving form to metal in new and coherent directions.
Tamar Kern
Alloy gallery is the studio and an award winning gallery of Tamar Kern. Tamar has shown her work across the United States and in Europe. She is included in many definitive books on contemporary art jewelry.
She makes small series of works based on disguised narratives; her most recent body of work is in 24K gold. She also specializes in re-designing clients old jewelry. She swings from the dark, “offerings”, which are vessels of one’s own mortality, to the playful with her moveable creatures affixed to baby spoons.
