Gas prices rise for 4th straight week

AAA Southern New England Monday said its weekly survey of gasoline prices across Rhode Island had found an average increase of 1 cent per gallon. The July 24 survey was the fourth in as many weeks to find prices had risen, the auto club noted.

Self-serve unleaded gasoline averaged $3.08 per gallon, up 1 cent from the survey last week and 13 cents from the one a month ago. A year ago, the average price was $2.41 per gallon.

The average self-serve price for premium unleaded was $3.31 per gallon, AAA found, and for diesel, $3.05.

“Motorists should continue to shop around for the best prices,” the AAA news release said. For regular unleaded, the range in its latest survey was 18 cents per gallon, from a low of $3.01 to a high of $3.19. Similar ranges were found for other grades of fuel.
