AAA Southern New England Monday said its weekly survey of gasoline prices across Rhode Island had found an average increase of 2 cents per gallon. The July 31 survey was the fifth in as many weeks to find prices had risen, the auto club noted.
Self-serve unleaded gasoline averaged $3.10 per gallon, up 2 cents from the survey last week, 12 cents from the one a month ago and 15 cents from five weeks ago, when the rise began. A year ago, the average price was $2.41 per gallon. (The highest price on record for the region, AAA said, is the $3.24 reported on Sept. 5.)

The average self-serve price for premium unleaded was $3.32 per gallon, AAA found, and for diesel, $3.06.
“Motorists should continue to shop around for the best prices,” the AAA news release said. For regular unleaded, the range in its latest survey was 16 cents per gallon, from a low of $3.05 to a high of $3.21. Similar ranges were found for other grades of fuel.
The average price of unleaded regular also rose 2 cents per gallon in AAA’s weekly survey for Massachusetts.
