Genesis Center seeks immigrant award nominees

PROVIDENCE – The Genesis Center, a provider of literacy and job training, today announced it is seeking nominees for a new immigrant awards program.

The first annual Independent Man Awards will be presented on April 27, at 6:30 p.m., in a ceremony at The Providence Hilton. The program is being hosted by the Genesis Center; the awards selection committee is chaired by Dr. Pablo Rodriguez.

Awards will be given in five categories:

* Emerging Leader IMA, recognizing an outstanding young immigrant who must be 21 or younger at the time of nomination.

* Community Service IMA, recognizing an immigrant leader who has demonstrated a selfless commitment to his or her community, contributing time, talent or treasure.

* Entrepreneur IMA, recognizing an enthusiastic immigrant who has owned a successful business for more than 5 years.

* National Impact IMA, recognizing a passionate leader who has demonstrated a commitment to U.S. immigrants.

* Corporate IMA, recognizing a private enterprise that recognizes Rhode Island’s diverse community, welcomes it into the workplace, and provides equal opportunities for career advancement and professional growth.
