Press Release–When it comes to a medical emergency seconds can save lives. According to the CDC each year more than 136 million Americans visit the ER.
For those with a health condition there is even a greater urgency for first responders to know about a patient’s medical information. So when Angelo Pitassi’s son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes he wanted to give his son or anyone, both young or old, the best hope for surviving a medical emergency.

Pitassi and his wife knew the importance of their child wearing a medical identification bracelet but, like most children, Angelo wanted to wear something hip and trendy. “That’s when I realized that some fun, innovation and fashion needed to be injected into these products,” says Pitassi, “I also realized my son would probably want to wear one he could actually make unique to himself. I decided to use my jewelry design background and create my own HIP Band for Angelo.” One that would be hip and one that his son could customize with different charms, band styles and colors.
Pitassi joined forces with Director of IT Chris Melo creating HealthID Profile Inc. The two Rhode Islanders created the first of its kind HIP Bands and Bracelets that are trendy, affordable and allow adults and children to conveniently store all of their health information through cloud computing.
Each HIP Band or Bracelet comes with a unique HIP Code. Users simply create a profile at HealthID Profile and if there is an emergency a first responder can enter their HIP Code and their information is readily available. HealthID Profile follows HIPPA security guidelines and if a HIP Band or Bracelet is lost or stolen HealthID can easily shut down a person’s HIP Code and issue a new one.
Once the HIP Code is shut down access to a person’s information is no longer available. The encrypted software has been developed to safeguard patients and there is also a feature that allows users to lock out any information they would not want someone to see.
The HIP Bands are fully interchangeable so that you can keep your HIP Code and information consistent in the Medical ID Slide, but you can interchange the bands to suit any outfit in your closet. You can even add charms to customize and make the HIP Bands your own personal style. From your favorite sports team to your favorite past time. The fashion designs are endless.
The HIP Bracelets are designed to not only hold your HIP Code, but also hold a USB device that syncs your information from the HealthID Profile platform. The USB does not need an Internet connection for First Responders to access the information you want them to see!
Understanding what it’s like to have a child with a medical condition, Pitassi wanted to make the HIP Bands and Bracelets affordable. The HIP Bracelets with the USB vary slightly in price per style but the average price point starts at just under $30.00. The HIP Bands are priced from $6.95 and the HIP Charms are priced from $2.95. “When our son first wore his HIP Band to school all his friends wanted one. Plus we’re hearing from many parents and adults without medical issues who say they want a HIP Band or Bracelet, to simply store their blood type or in case of emergency information, plus they want to be HIP too.”
