Infinite receives $12 million DARPA contract

WARWICK – Infinite Group, Inc. has announced that its subsidiary, Infinite Photonics, Inc., has been selected to receive a $12 million contract for its proprietary grating coupled surface emitting laser (IP GCSEL(TM)) diode technology from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). Subject to final contract negotiations, the full effort is to begin in the first quarter of 2002.

CCRI ranked 7^th in survey of two-year institutions

WARWICK – The Community College of Rhode Island was ranked seventh in the U.S. in the most recent edition of the Yahoo! Internet Life magazine’s rankings of most wired two-year institutions. CCRI was listed in the national magazine as one of the “20 most competitive wired institutions offering only 2-year degree programs.”
Yahoo! Internet Life surveyed more than 1,300 institutions as they ranked the top 200 four-year institutions and the top 20 two-year schools, inquiring into their infrastructure (28 percent of the grade), student resources (28 percent), Web portal (21 percent), E-learning (12 percent), tech support (7 percent) and wireless access (4 percent).

Nestor product wins over digital still cameras

PROVIDENCE – Nestor Traffic Systems, Inc. (NTS), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Nestor, Inc. (OTC: NEST), has announced that the City of Irvine, Calif. has chosen CrossingGuard(R) to expand its automated red light enforcement and intersection safety program for at least eight of the city’s high-traffic intersection approaches.

CrossingGuard emerged as the solution of choice after the city conducted a pilot program where two systems were installed and the features and performance of CrossingGuard’s video technology were compared to those offered by a competitive digital camera and loop-dependent system. The pilot intersection in Irvine was NTS’ first CrossingGuard installation in California.

PurchaseSoft, Inc. plans to wind down operations

WESTBOROUGH, Mass. – PurchaseSoft, Inc. (OTC BULLETIN BOARD: PURC) suspended its operations effective Dec. 21 and is commencing an orderly wind down of its operations. In addition, the company announced the layoff of substantially all of its employees except those necessary to effect such wind down. PurchaseSoft will continue to evaluate its strategic alternatives in order to maximize the value of its assets.

BCA’s electronics honored by Palm Inc.

PROVIDENCE – Palm Inc. has honored the ActiveECG cardiac monitor with “Best Overall” as part of their first-ever Powered Up Awards. The ActiveECG uses custom electronics connected to a Palm handheld to sense and record cardiac rhythms. Bay Computer Associates of Providence designed the electronics for the ActiveECG.

EPAC establishes European business partner

WARWICK – EPAC Software Technologies, Inc. has consummated a joint venture arrangement with MIQUEST LTD. of Great Britain. In the alliance, each company has agreed to represent the other with marketing and sales of proprietary software products as well as implementation and training programs. Both companies provide a software technology known as CMMS or Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. MIQUEST will deliver sales and consultant services of both companies in England and Europe; EPAC will represent both systems in North America.
