The U.S. Small Business Administration announced on Monday that it has selected Johnson & Wales University to be the new host of the Rhode Island Small Business Development Center. The cooperative agreement takes effect on July 1, when the SBA’s 23-year agreement with former host Bryant University expires.
The SBA will provide annual grants of $500,000 each calendar year. Johnson & Wales must match the grant with cash and in-kind contributions.

The Small Business Development Center program is the largest government-funded small-business management and technical-assistance program with 63 lead centers and more than 900 service delivery points throughout the United States and its territories. While at Bryant, the center averaged about 900 clients a year.
