October 3, 2011 (Providence, RI) – Leadership Rhode Island (LRI) is in its final week of its open application process for leaders and emerging leaders who wish to participate in the 2012 Core Program, themed “IDEAS: Imagine, Discuss, Engage, Act, Solve.”
Applicants accepted into the 2012 Theta II class will identify challenges that Rhode Island faces and explore how to solve them. LRI alumni and the general public will then be invited to learn about the 2012 Theta II class discoveries at a collaborative leadership conference in October 2012.

“The 2010 class identified Rhode Island’s strengths and perceived weaknesses and then completed projects to enhance the state’s image,” says Mike Ritz, Executive Director of Leadership Rhode Island. “In 2011, the class projects are strengthening relationships between Rhode Island and select locations around the world. The coming IDEAS year, will bring everything full circle – leveraging insight gained in these classes, engaging LRI’s 1600 person alumni, bringing together the greater Rhode Island community, and attracting best practices experts from outside Rhode Island to work together for the betterment of our state.”
Each year, Leadership Rhode Island (established in 1981) selects a diverse group of 50-60 leaders from a wide range of fields, backgrounds, and view points. They are selected for their leadership capacity, talents, life experiences, and shared commitment to making Rhode Island a community with the brightest of futures. Selected applicants participate in a thought-provoking, 10-month community leadership core program and are challenged on a variety of statewide issues presented by Rhode Island leaders and experts with on-site visits, readings, discussion groups, problem solving exercises, and other experiential activities.
“The core program is not a starting point, but rather a process for leaders to refine and enhance their commitment to Rhode Island and it’s done in the company of multiple stakeholder groups dedicated to stewarding our state,” confirms Ritz.
