PBN 40 UNDER FORTY 2020 AWARD WINNER Leo Pollock, 39 | Co-founder, The Compost Plant
How has COVID-19 impacted your work-life balance? My wife, Nicole, and I have a 2-year-old, and my parents were here visiting in March and have been living with us since the shutdown. On the one hand, it has been incredible to spend genuine time with family and to have three generations of my family together. But I’m ready to dive back into a schedule with clearer boundaries between work and family time.
Where do you see yourself in five years? I want The Compost Plant to be known as a regional driver of innovation in organic waste management.
What is the best advice you ever received? If you pursue directions that you’re passionate and curious about but temper that with empathy toward others and a willingness to listen deeply, opportunities and possibilities will open up for you.
What is your greatest attribute that you bring to your job? An indefatigable passion for this work and a commitment to building strong systems.
What is your favorite Rhode Island food or drink? Fried calamari with banana peppers.
The prop: Leo Pollock holds a bucket, complete with The Compost Plant’s logo. Pollock co-founded the company in 2013 with the recognition that food waste is a resource that needs to be kept out of landfills.
