Kevin Ricci, director manager of information systems at Lefkowitz, Garfinkel, Champi & DeRienzo (LGC&D), received the designation of Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA). Currently, Ricci administers the technology strategies and policies, manages a team for technology support, and provides network, hardware and application support and training to staff at LGC&D. He is a founding member and a co-leader of LGC&D Solutions, the firm’s IT solutions group.

PBN: Why do professionals want the CISA designation and how has it improved your skill set?
RICCI: The Computer Information Systems Auditor (CISA) certification, issued first in 1978, is globally recognized as the gold standard qualification in the field of systems audit. The qualification entails the study of the information technology audit process, IT governance, systems and infrastructure lifecycle management, information asset protection, IT service delivery and support, and business continuity. The reason I pursued this credential was to provide a level of service to LGC&D’s clients that is not normally found in a Providence-based, regional accounting firm.

PBN: Is the CISA certification highly sought after by prospective employers and employees?
RICCI: Definitely. After a number of highly publicized information security breaches related to company and employee data, and the critical nature of the IT environment in the day-to-day operations of businesses, companies are elevating the importance of information security and focusing on enhancing their general computer and application controls.

PBN: How has the staff training at LGC&D for network, hardware and applications evolved?
RICCI: Internally, we have completed several security initiatives, such as implementing encryption, hardening our security policies, and consulting with third party security specialists in order to help us properly protect our client’s data. As it relates to the services we provide to our clients, the principals of our firm, having the foresight to see the increasing importance of IT general computer controls and data security becoming a major issue, supported the creation of LGC&D Solutions. •
