Lifespan to launch urgent care clinic in Warwick, first of several planned for R.I.

WARWICK – Lifespan Corp. is opening an urgent care facility in Warwick, the organization announced Thursday.

The urgent care facility will be the first of several planned centers that will exist separate from a hospital, Lifespan said. The clinic is set to come online in September. Lifespan did not provide details on potential other clinics.

The clinic will be located at 17 Airport Road. It will treat adults and children over 18 months old for injuries; illnesses, including cold and flu; fractures and sprains; cuts; burns; immunizations; and sports physicals, among other services.

The clinic will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and will close at 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. It will be closed for three days per year, on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day.

The health care organization said the Lifespan Urgent Care clinics will have the benefit of access to patient medical records via the MyLifespan patient portal, along with access to emergency services, primary care providers and specialists, if needed.

The urgent care program is part of Lifespan Physician Group.

“We are a state-of-the-art facility with the ability to perform minor procedures and flat plate X-ray,” said Bobby Hingorani, director of urgent care operations for Lifespan Physician Group. “Our well-trained medical staff believes strongly in the importance of working with fellow community health providers to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. When necessary, our Warwick team can help refer patients within the broader health care system, including referrals to specialists, primary care physicians and hospitals.”

Lifespan said that it is not concerned about the clinics reducing traffic at its hospitals.

“Lifespan affiliates are very busy and are the hospitals of choice for many, many Rhode Islanders. We are not the least bit worried they will take business away from our hospitals,” said Lifespan spokesman Richard Salit. “In fact, by expanding into communities around the state, these urgent care locations will introduce even more Rhode Islanders to the high quality care that Lifespan delivers and potentially attract more patients to Lifespan medical facilities, including our hospitals, primary care providers and specialists.”

Salit noted that the clinics may also work to reduce pressure on emergency departments around the state.
