BOSTON — Unemployment in the Bay State hit its lowest level in 30 years last
December the Massachusetts Department of Employment and Training reported. The
drop to 2.3 percent from the 2.6 percent reported in November was attributed primarily
by the DE&T to a rise in jobs in the service industry. Overall, the state
reported 5,200 new jobs of all kinds in December. Of those, 4,500 were reported
in the services industry. Statewide, a total of 3,320,500 workers are reported
to be employed in service industries.
