PROVIDENCE — The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), the Rhode Island Small Business Alliance and the Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) will present Rhode Island Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week beginning Monday, January 15.
The theme for this year’s celebration is New Horizons: The Emerging Minority Workplace. According to the SBA, the weeklong schedule of events will honor and recognize the achievements of minority and women-owned small businesses and the contributions they make to the state and national economies.

Scheduled activities for the week include a series of professional development workshops and a Congressional breakfast and roundtable.
In addition to the workshops and roundtable, MED Week will include the Minority Enterprise Awards Dinner. Amar D. Singh, president of India International, Inc. will receive the 2001 Rhode Island Minority Small Business Person of the Year at the dinner, which takes place on Wednesday, January 17 at 6 p.m. at Rhodes-on-the-Pawtuxet, Cranston. An SBA loan recipient, Singh operates three India restaurants in the state.
Prior to the awards dinner, a business expo and networking reception will be held. The expo will begin at 12 noon and the networking reception begins at 5 p.m. The business expo and reception are free of charge and open to the public. The donation for the awards dinner is $25.
