Moody’s gives Boston its highest rating

NEW YORK — Moody’s Investors Service announced that it had boosted the city of
Boston’s credit rating to Aa2, the city’s highest rating ever. The city’s rating
previously had been an A. The upgrade stems from several factors, according to
the Boston Globe. These include a recent favorable credit review, the city’s sale
of $120 million worth of general bond anticipation notes, expansion of the city’s
tax base, a conservative debt position, and a 98.7 percent tax collection rate.
