Paul Levy, of Boston, is most widely known for his experience at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he is credited with introducing unprecedented levels of transparency in the healthcare field.  Prior to this he served as the Executive Director of the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority, leading the cleanup of Boston Harbor. He has also been Chairman of the MA Department of Public Utilities, Director of the Arkansas Department of Energy, and Executive Dean for Administration at Harvard Medical School.

Much of his experience at Beth Israel formed the basis of his book, and the title of his talk, “Goal Play!  Leadership Lessons from the Soccer Field”, which is based on two decades of executive experience and coaching youth soccer.  The book presents insights from sports, healthcare, business and government to help leaders get better outcomes.

“Goal Play!…” has received critical acclaim from business leaders and management experts.  Edgar Schein, professor emeritus from the Sloan School, calls it “one of the best leadership books I have ever read.”  (Levy will sign books for purchase after the meeting).  Levy also maintains an active blog, “Not Running A Hospital”, which he describes as “a blog by a former CEO of a large Boston hospital to share thoughts about hospitals, medicine, and health care issues”.

The October meeting is one of several open meetings held each year by the RI Executives Association, to foster dialogue and creative problem solving in the business community.  The meeting is free, though RSVP is required.  For more information, contact:  Nancy Thomas, at Tapestry Communications at 401-447-8182 or nthomas@tapestrycommunications.com. The meeting includes a complimentary buffet lunch.

The Executives Association of RI is the local chapter of the International Executives Association, and is the region’s oldest and most experienced independent business networking organization, founded in 1939.  Members are chosen for membership, are category exclusive, and provide leads, quality goods, referrals and services to businesses throughout the area.   The group meets weekly and has open categories for membership slots now.  Each week a member shares information about his/her business and once a month guest speakers are invited to educate the membership on a service or topic relevant to the state.
