PROVIDENCE – OfficeLAB, the new downtown co-working space in the Federal Reserve building, has changed its membership structure and fees.
Wayne Franklin, principal of OfficeLAB owner Urban Sun Investments, said the changes were made because of the economic downturn and based on feedback from people who have used the space, which allows telecommuting employees, freelancers and other mobile workers to share an office. (READ MORE)

Originally, OfficeLAB memberships were sold for $175 per month for part-time members (up to 40 hours monthly), $299 for full-time members and $499 for corporate members.
But Franklin said he found that the people most interested in using the space were consultants and small startups that wanted a space to work downtown but needed more flexibility. Paying $175 a month was too much for many people with a free home office also available.
The new pricing is simple and straightforward – $300 for an annual membership. Franklin compares it to a gym membership.
“It’s a lot more flexible,” he said. “It takes the taint of the money issue away.”
With more people laid off and looking for work, or starting out on their own, Franklin said he also plans to have OfficeLAB focus on making connections between members and building a community around the space.
