PROVIDENCE, R.I. (June 8, 2009) – The open enrollment period for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island’s (BCBSRI) Plans for Individuals and Families (also known as Direct Pay plans), will run through Monday, June 15.

During the open enrollment period, Rhode Island residents who are not eligible for health insurance through an employer, Medicare, or Medicaid can purchase health insurance directly from BCBSRI, regardless of their health status. BCBSRI is the only health plan in the state that offers coverage for Rhode Islanders who are not eligible for health insurance through employer- or government-sponsored programs.

BCBSRI offers four health plans and a dental plan directly to individuals and families. The plans offer comprehensive coverage for medical and dental care, as well as prescription drugs. Subscribers also have access to the extensive nationwide BlueCard PPO network, and they retain the option to visit providers outside the network.
