PORTSMOUTH, Rhode Island – Patients who pay for treatment using a credit card at New Horizon Chiropractic and Wellness are swiping for a cause. The medical practice is enrolled with a unique credit card processing organization called “Swipe for a Cause” in which profits are donated to support Chrysalis Hospice of Rhode Island.
Swipe for a Cause, LLC was formed for the sole purpose of bringing residential hospice to Rhode Island, the only state in the country without one. The organization has corporate merchant processing roots from 2001, but transformed in 2009 to exclusively support charitable organizations.

“We donate 100% of our annual profits generated from credit card processing fees,” said Andy Kinnecom, co-founder of Swipe for a Cause, LLC.
Dr. Misty Kosciusko, DC, MS, owner of New Horizon Chiropractic and Wellness on East Main Road in Portsmouth, selected Swipe for a Cause as her credit card processing agent.
“This is a local organization helping people in need of comfort and good healthcare in a time of grief,” said Dr. Kosciusko. “If I’m going to pay for credit card processing, I prefer knowing that the fees go toward helping others in our community.”
According to Dr. Kosciusko, patient reaction to Swipe for a Cause has been extremely positive. She says many have expressed that, when they pay with their credit card, they feel they are contributing to their own good health as well as a charitable cause.
“Dr. Kosciusko is a very compassionate caregiver,” said Margaret Wilcox Kinnecom, co-founder of Swipe for a Cause. “She saw immediately how a residential hospice house in Rhode Island would benefit so many and knew that odds are someday someone she is treating will need it – we wish all doctors in the area had her vision.”
About Swipe for a Cause
In 2001, Swipe for a Cause co-founder Andy Kinnecom teamed up with First Data executive Tom Epstein to create a merchant processing company focused on the hotel industry. Tom later built FPN, a large financial payments network geared toward franchises.
In 2009, Kinnecom’s late wife died after a difficult battle with peritoneal cancer. She was under hospice care when she passed. Kinnecom and his two daughters, Katie Young and Kimberly Kinnecom, formed a 501c(3) non-profit foundation to help support others with this rare cancer. Margaret Wilcox Kinnecom and Carol Wilcox, who also experienced significant loss in their family, approached Kinnecom to help build a hospice house. Carol’s husband, Mike Medeiros, later joined the group to help create the credit card processing company to build the first residential hospice house in Rhode Island.
