PAWTUCKET – The city will receive 53 DS-200 voting machines from the R.I. Board of Elections for the midterm election on Nov. 6, nearly twice as many as the 31 used during the 2016 general election, the Pawtucket Board of Canvassers announced Sept. 27.
The DS-200 machines, which are slightly slower but much more secure than the machines used previously, were introduced during the 2016 elections.

In Pawtucket, some of these machines started to jam or experience mechanical issues, which forced some voters to wait as long as two hours to cast their ballot.
To avoid similar issues this year, the city worked with the R.I. Board of Elections to provide additional machines. Of Pawtucket’s 31 polling places, 17 will receive at least two machines, and the seven hardest hit in 2016 will receive three machines.
