Polaroid to slash workforce

CAMBRIDGE — Polaroid Corp. announced that it planned to slash 2,000 jobs worldwide
— one quarter of its total workforce around the world. Half of the 2,000 jobs lost
will be from the various offices, manufacturing plants and distribution centers
around Massachusetts, the Boston Globe reported. This follows the company’s elimination
of 950 jobs in February. Polaroid’s objective is to have 5,500 employees by the
end of next year, only 55 percent of the 10,011 it employed in 1997, the Globe
reported.
