Program for post-cancer rehab expands in R.I.

PROVIDENCE – Project STAR, a rehabilitation program for cancer survivors developed by Dr. Julie K. Silver, is being incorporated into a number of Rhode Island rehabilitation programs.
Silver, an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School, developed the program to address the complex medical and therapeutic needs of survivors of cancer, based on her own experiences recovering from breast cancer.
Project STAR has signed contracts with Kent Hospital, South County Hospital, the Rehabilitation Hospital of Rhode Island and the Rhode Island Rehabilitation Centers. It is expected that these programs, which will be covered by health insurance in Rhode Island, will complete accreditation and be available to patients in 2012. Women & Infants Hospital is expected to sign on as well, according to a news release. &#8226
