PROVIDENCE – Providence College celebrated the grand opening of the PC/Smith Hill Annex on Douglas Avenue on Nov. 9.
The annex, a 1,000-square-foot storefront in the Smith Hill Community Development Corp.’s Capitol Square Development project, is a commitment in the school’s longstanding relationship with the Smith Hill and Chad Brown communities.
The annex is available for use by campus and community groups and those interested in conversation, dialogue and collaboration.
Several Providence College classes met at the annex last year and the school plans to expand the number and variety of classes offered at the space. A variety of community groups and nonprofit organizations also have used the space for meetings and plans are in development to hold a monthly community potluck dinner, book group and yoga classes there.
The college said the goal is to increase interaction between the campus community and residents and that those relationships will lead to long-term collaborations. •
