PROVIDENCE – The nonseasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the Providence-Warwick-Fall River metropolitan area was 6.8% in November, a rise from 6.5% one month prior and 3.1% in November 2019, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics said Tuesday.
Nationally, the unemployment rate in November was 6.4%, while the Rhode Island unemployment rate was 7%. The BLS said that of the 389 metro areas in the county, only 63 had jobless rates below 4% while 16 had rate higher than 10%.

There were 45,560 individuals unemployed in the Providence metro area in November, a rise from 21,889 one year prior. The labor force in the area totaled 672,991, a decline from 697,292 one year prior. There were 566,400 individuals on nonfarm payrolls in the metro area in November, a 7% decline year over year.
