PROVIDENCE – COVID-19 cases in Rhode Island increased by 288 on Monday, with four more deaths, according to the R.I. Department of Health Tuesday.
Cases have totaled 31,445 to date, an increase of 421 from figures reported Monday, accounting for both the day-to-day increase, as well as data revisions for previous days.

Deaths due to the virus in the state have totaled 1,188 to date.
Hospitalizations of COVID-19 patients totaled 168, an increase from 163 one day prior. Of those hospitalized, 14 were in intensive care units and eight were on ventilators.
There were 8,031 tests processed Monday, with an overall positive rate of 3.6%. When excluding both repeat positive and repeat negative tests, the positive rate was 10.3%.
There have been 1.08 million tests administered in the state to date to 423,469 individuals.
RIDOH also updated its weekly COVID-19 metrics Tuesday. The department has said in the past exceeding one of the department’s three set thresholds in a week may result in increased restrictions within the state.
- New cases per 100,000 continued to exceed the department’s acceptable threshold, increasing to 242 from 150 one week prior. The department’s threshold for the metric is 100.
- New hospital admissions totaled 139, an increase from 103 one week prior. The set threshold is 210.
- The positivity rate for the week was 2.9%, a rise from 2% one week prior. The set threshold for positivity rate is 5%.
