R.I. gas prices dip 3 cents this week

PROVIDENCE – The average price of self-serve, regular unleaded gasoline declined 3 cents this week to $2.63 per gallon, 2 cents higher than the national average of $2.61 per gallon and 25 cents lower than prices at this time last year, according to AAA Northeast Monday.

Prices in Rhode Island ranged 35 cents from $2.44 to $2.79 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $2.92 per gallon, ranging from $2.74 to $3.09 per gallon.
  • Premium gas averaged $3.15 per gallon, ranging from $2.94 to $3.49 per gallon.
  • Diesel fuel averaged $3.02 per gallon, ranging from $2.89 to $3.35 per gallon.

“Despite robust demand, gas prices continue to trend downward, which is good news for drivers heading out for the long Labor Day weekend, taking end-of-summer vacations, and driving their college students back to campus,” said Diana Imondi, AAA Northeast manager of public affairs and traffic safety, in a statement.

In Massachusetts, the average price of regular gas declined 1 cent this week to $2.63 per gallon, level with Rhode Island and 2 cents higher than the national average. Prices were 19 cents higher one year prior.

In the Bay State, regular gas prices ranged 62 cents from $2.43 to $3.05 per gallon.

  • Midgrade gas averaged $2.86 per gallon, ranging from $2.65 to $3.25 per gallon.
  • Premium gas averaged $3.04 per gallon, ranging from $2.75 to $3.45 per gallon.
  • Diesel fuel averaged $2.96 per gallon, ranging from $2.69 to $3.39 per gallon.
