U.S. Sen. Jack Reed has sent a letter to U.S. Department of Labor Secretary Elaine Chao requesting additional unemployment benefits and worker retraining funds for the 25 Bess Eaton employees who will lose their jobs when the company closes its bake shop in Rhode Island.
Reed requested Workforce Investment Act funds or any other servicesto help the former Bess Eaton Employees find new employment. Bess Eaton announced on Tuesday that it is partnering with a New York-based baked goods production company rather than maintaining its own independent facility.

Reed stated: “With the slow down in the economy this additional federal assistance is essential to ensuring that these workers are able to stay on their feet during a difficult period in their lives. Equally importantly it will provide them with the training they need to find new jobs.”
