Report: R.I. 31st best state for millennials

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island is the 31st-best state for millennials, according to a recent study by MoneyRates.com.

The personal finance and banking website recently released its list of the best and worst states for millennials, ranking states according to data about the job market for young adults, residential rental availability and affordability, access to high-speed broadband, college tuition affordability, and concentration of bars and fitness centers relative to the young adult population.

Data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and U.S. Census Bureau, as well as the College Board was used, as well as information from other sources.

Based on that criteria, North Dakota topped the list, followed by South Dakota and Nebraska.

North Dakota stood out for having the second-highest population of people aged 20 to 24, trailing only Utah, and for its job market.

Rhode Island tied with New York and New Mexico for the 31st spot, which is on the lower end. Looked at another way, the states tied for 19th worst on the list.

Massachusetts ranked highest among New England states at 28th, followed by Connecticut at 30th.  Vermont and Maine ranked 40th and 41st, respectively, while New Hampshire was at the bottom of the list, tying with Virginia for 49th. Arizona was last on the list as the worst state for millennials due to its lack of fitness facilities for young adults and poor access to high-speed broadband.
