NEW YORK – Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE: VZ) today announced that John F. Killian, a Rhode Island native, will become the company’s new executive vice president and chief financial officer on March 1.

Killian has served as president of Verizon Business – the company’s enterprise services division – since its formation in January 2006. Killian will succeed outgoing Verizon CFO Doreen Toben, who recently announced plans to retire later this year.

“John has the broad scope of financial and operational experience that makes him a natural fit for the CFO position,” Verizon Chairman and CEO Ivan Seidenberg said in a statement. “He has held many of Verizon’s top financial jobs, and most recently has led our enterprise operations during a period when we have consistently taken share from our competition globally. We look forward to a seamless transition.”

He lives in Massachusetts with his wife and two children.
