RHODE ISLAND BUILDERS ASSOCIATION LAUNCHES FREE SEARCH WEBSITE
(EAST PROVIDENCE-RI) The Rhode Island Builders Association has launched a new website: RIBAlist.com. The site provides access to the organization’s 1,000 members and also contains important information on how to hire and find a local contractor – consumers can search by business category and zip. “We are extremely excited to offer this free service to the public,” John Marcantonio, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Builders Association stated. “It’s one place where folks can find a contractor, supplier, electrician, plumber, remodeler, banker, painter and more. And, it’s important to note that our members who are contractors are required to maintain their state registrations and carry insurance.”

“We encourage the public to take advantage of RIBAlist.com.as a source to find a contractor. As an association of building professionals, one of our top priorities has always been to educate consumers on how to about find and work with dependable contractors,” Marcantonio added “As a service to the public we have always provided guidelines on hiring a contractor that we feel will make the process easier and the final result more satisfying.
Marcantonio reminds consumers to be careful,”The internet is full of contractor listings and although many contain referrals and reviews, the public should always be cautious about the potential for anonymous and fake content.”
The Association recommends that consumers do their homework and follow these steps before hiring a contractor.
1. Get referrals from neighbors, friends and family. Some of the best contractors get all their business by word of mouth.
2. Interview 3-5 prospects, in person.
3. Verify your contractor’s background and check references – contact their materials suppliers, make sure they’re registered by visiting the Contractors’ Registration and Licensing Board website, call recent customers, etc.
4. Ask about professional association membership, training in their field, and work in their community.
5. Nail down the contract – get all the details in writing.
