PROVIDENCE, RI, February 5, 2013 – The Ronald McDonald House of Providence (RMH Providence) recently partnered with The Art Connection-RI to transform the Ronald McDonald House in Providence, Rhode Island. The Art Connection-RI facilitated the donation of 8 original works of art that will enhance the beauty of RMH Providence. These pieces are located throughout the House and will be enjoyed by guest families, volunteers, staff members and visitors.
“The Ronald McDonald House of Providence provides a temporary home for families with children who receive treatment at local hospitals,” said Michael Fantom, Chief Executive Officer of Ronald McDonald House of Providence. “We focus on providing a positive environment and these new pieces all enhance the soothing and uplifting atmosphere of the House. Art also provides respite from the clinical setting of hospitals.”
Ronald McDonald House staff, volunteers and board members collaborated to choose art that compliments the Ronald McDonald House of Providence. These works were all completed by Rhode Island and Massachusetts area artists: Ann Daum, Gail Armstrong, Bea Turek Robinson, Vincent Grimaldi, and Sophie Breton.
Ronald McDonald House of Providence
The Ronald McDonald House of Providence is a nonprofit organization that provides programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children and their families. The two core programs are the Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald Family Room at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Both are designed to keep families close during hospitalizations. The organization’s programs also allow families to spend additional time with a sick child, help ease financial burdens, provide a sense of normalcy to families, and keep families together during times of medical crisis. The Art Connection-RI
The Art Connection-RI builds connections between artists and their communities by bringing art to community organizations – clinics, youth and senior service programs, job training centers, shelters and residential programs, and more. The Art Connection-RI identifies artists willing to donate their work, catalogs the works for presentation to prospective recipients, helps agencies access the appropriate work, and teaches them to care for the art. These works of art are then the permanent property of the organizations. In their new environments, art stimulates dialogue, creativity, learning and healing. This simple but powerful idea has resulted in art installations at seven nonprofit organizations in Providence during 2012, giving those who often have the least access to art direct contact in their own communities.
