CENTRAL FALLS, Rhode Island (December 19, 2012) – With purchase of the former Cowden Street community center, now known as the Segue MAGn’T Annex, Segue Institute for Learning is actively seeking interested community-based service providers to join forces. A planning committee made up of social services organizations is now in the early stages of formation.

“Now is an ideal time to join us on the ground level of what will become a tremendous community-altering resource,” said Angelo Garcia, Founder/Head of School for the Segue Institute for Learning. “We hope to have a fully engaged committee in place by late December to begin work after the New Year.”
Segue purchased the school and adjacent building with the goal of bringing critical services back to Central Falls for families in dire need of community-based support.
“We’re seeking existing community based organizations and service providers which will complement the work we are doing as a school,” said Garcia. “In a time when funding and grants are scarce, collaboration is the key to success. Together we can stretch more dollars and reach more families in need.”
In addition to assembling a planning and engagement committee, Segue looks to garner help from volunteers and rally support from residents and elected officials.
Segue is already receiving local support. Recently, the school received a letter from Senator Elizabeth Crowley congratulating them on the purchase of the building and offering any support that was needed to get the “full service community school” up and running.
The school also got word last week that Mrs. Rele Abiade-Ritter, a representative from U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse’s office, is attempting to secure donation of a 15-passenger van or mini bus from RIPTA for Segue and the community to use.
“I’ve received extremely positive feedback from all kinds of people here in the city and other parts of the state as well. We need help to make this happen. Off to a great start! This is a very good thing,” said Garcia.
