State bill targets lobbying ethics

State lawmakers unveiled Monday the “2006 Public Accountability and Reform Act” at a State House news conference.

The legislation, 2006-S2799 and 2006-H7455, would require greater disclosure by lobbyists and public officials, mandatory ethics education and increased penalties for ethics violations.

The Senate bill has been introduced and referred to the Senate Judiciary Committee. The House legislation was heard before the House Judiciary Committee during the week of March 20.
