PROVIDENCE — Cell Based Delivery, Inc. reports that its ImPACT implants stimulated
the formation of new blood vessels by delivering, in a predictable fashion, an
angiogenic protein to damaged tissue in an adult mouse. The ability to deliver
dose-controlled quantities of potent angiogenic proteins directly to ischemic
areas is a critical step in developing safe products designed to increase blood
flow to, for example, heart muscle – thereby improving overall heart muscle function.
Cell Based Delivery’s scientists reported their findings in the July 31 issue
of Circulation in an article titled “Recombinant Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor
Secreted from Tissue-Engineered Bioartificial Muscles Promotes Localized Angiogenesis.”
