From shipbuilding to the auto business and now renewable energy, Thomas Derecktor has been finding unusual ways to connect concepts across industries since the 1970s. “I’m a great believer in the cross-pollination of ideas,” he said, talking about a sliding rack used in the automotive industry that was based on the tracks of a sailboat.
