PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island ranked second in New England for the relative value of $100, according to a report by the Tax Foundation released on Thursday. In the Ocean State, the relative value of $100 is $101.32, No. 33 in the nation.
The study measured the value of goods (including rental housing costs) that $100 can buy in each state compared to the national average.

Maine and Rhode Island were the only two states in New England in which the relative value of $100 exceeded the national average.
Hawaii ranked No. 50 with the lowest relative value for $100 in the nation with a relative purchasing power of $84.18. Mississippi ranked No. 1 in the study with a relative purchasing power of $116.01.
