PROVIDENCE – In a traditional treat for downtown shoppers, the city has rolled out its “Relaxed Parking” program, which runs through Jan. 1.
The program lifts the time limit in certain neighborhoods, between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday, for on-street parking in legal spaces.

• Downtown Providence and the Jewelry District – from Steeple Street west to Route 95; from 95 south to Route 195; east to Point Street; from Point Street to Wickenden Street; and north on South Main Street, to North Main Street at Steeple Street
• North Main Street – from Thomas Street to Park Row only
• Wayland Square
• Thayer Street
But the Providence Police Department’s Lt. Timothy Lee warned that “relaxed” hours apply only to vehicles that park in those areas after 11 a.m. – somebody who took a parking space at 10, and was still there at 11, would be subject to the normal limitations.
And, the city noted, cars parked in illegal spaces, including cross walks and tow zones, will still be ticketed.
