Hacker disrupts Web sites of PBN, other businesses

Internet design and services company Newfangled Web Factory and its clients, including Providence Business News, found their Web sites temporarily offline Friday morning after the Newfangled site was hacked.

The attack came at about 7 a.m., the company said, when a hacker apparently gained limited access to the Newfangled database via a demo program on the company’s Web site.

The hacker never gained access to client information, company spokesmen said, but did manage to launch a program that deleted many files.

The security leak has been plugged, the company said, by removing the demo through which the hacker accessed its files. And by about noon, all client Web sites reportedly were up and running.
