Gas prices drop another 19 cents, AAA says

For the second time in less than two months, gasoline prices in Rhode Island have dropped an average of 19 cents per gallon in just one week, and now average 85 cents less than in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in early September, according to AAA Southern New England.

AAA’s Oct. 31 survey of prices in Rhode Island found self serve unleaded regular averaging $2.389 per gallon, down 19 cents from last week, and 47 cents from the beginning of the month. The price hasn’t been this low since the Fourth of July. A year ago at this time, the average price was $2.079.

AAA has attributed the decline in price to resumed operations of oil refineries in the Gulf, along with lowered consumer demand nationwide.

The range in prices in AAA’s survey for regular unleaded is 20 cents, from a low of $2.2999 to a high of $2.499, the consumer group said.
