CVS to hold flu clinics in over 3,500 stores

WOONSOCKET – CVS/pharmacy is offering flu vaccinations in more than 3,500 stores across the country, starting this Saturday and running through late November, continuing an annual program that is “part of our role as a health care provider to help our customers stay healthy,” according to Jon Roberts, senior vice president of store operations.

The clinics will follow the advice of the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention and give priority to high-risk groups until Oct. 23: people over 65 years old, residents in long-term care facilities, people with chronic health conditions, pregnant women, health care personnel who provide direct patient care, and caregivers of children under 6 months old.

Influenza vaccinations are especially important for adults who have chronic pulmonary or cardiovascular disease, including asthma, and adults who have required regular medical follow-up or hospitalization during the past year due to chronic metabolic diseases, kidney dysfunction, blood disorders or immune system problems, CVS said.

The cost of flu shots will vary depending on the site; Medicare Part B patients who haven’t signed up for an HMO will get them for free. Pneumonia vaccinations will also be available at most locations. To find a clinic, call 1-800-SHOP-CVS and choose option #1, or go to www.cvs.com and use the Store Finder feature.
