Metech International, a precious metal recovery and electronic recycling service industries firm, will be moving its operations from Mapleville, R.I., to Worcester, Mass., in July after being acquired by MTI Corp., a Delaware-based holding company.
According to Jim Gardner, manager of market development, the company, which has 42 employees, will let go of seven or eight employees as a result of the move and acquisition.

He added that Metech would concentrate its electronic equipment recycling services at the Worcester location, while all precious metal recovery operations would take place on the West Coast.
“This (sale) will make us a much stronger company in the long run,” Gardner said.
The company, he said, had been for sale for quite a while and over the years it was owned by various holding companies, the latest of which included Jersey Holdings.
Gardner said that since the company is not moving too far away, company officials expect that most jobs would remain unaffected since the daily commute would not be too long. The relocation is expected to be complete by July 1.
