BOSTON – Gov. Mitt Romney has launched an initiative calling on commuters for their help in identifying and reporting potential terrorist activity on the state’s trains and buses, called the Transit Watch.
The new program, with the slogan “See Something? Say Something,” aims to provide anti-terror education to MBTA and passengers on the other 15 Regional Transit Authorities. The program’s security awareness campaign involves distribution of 350,000 educational pamphlets throughout the public transportation system, and the installation of educational placards in transit stations, on buses and subways as well as public service announcements on the radio, Romney’s office said.
Transit passengers should be on the lookout for passengers acting oddly, bags or packages left alone in a remote area or groups operating in an orchestrated or rehearsed manner, the statement from the governor said. Romney cautioned against anyone taking direct action against a suspicious activity alone, but suggested that they report the incident to a transit employee.
